The Dutch Shepherd is active versatile and very intelligent medium-large breed dog. The Dutch Shepherd original purpose was to be an all purpose farm dog. Largely to guard and as a drover of sheep. The Dutch Shepherd is a loyal devoted family companion. With the power and work ethic the Dutch Shepherd excels in a variety of working environments, including police, military, dog sports, scent detection, search and rescue and service work just to name a few. The Dutch shepherds come in three coat varieties but one standard colour pattern.
Short Coat!
The Short coat of the Dutch Shepherd is held tight to the body with no excessive furnishings. The coat is a double layer coat. The base colour is black with gold or silver bridling through out the body. The Dog is to have a solid black mask covering the eyes and muzzle of the face.
Long coat
The Long coat of the Dutch Shepherd keeps its beautiful brindle patterned as the coat continues on in length covering the whole body of the dog. Furnishing continue from the ears giving a fox like appearance. The tail is also heavily furnished with beautiful feathers from base to the tip of the tail. The Coat continues to be double layered similar to their short haired friends.
Rough-haired
Talk about rare! These beautiful dogs have a rough-hair course coat that covers the entire body of the dog. These dogs still shed moderately and need to be hand stripped twice a year to keep their coat in peak condition.
